It is time again for our annual Japanese Film Week! 
We have carefully selected five outstanding masterpieces from the last few years, with a variety ranging from touching human dramas to unique sci-fi work. With award-winning directors, internationally acclaimed actors and captivating stories, this year"s lineup is sure to entertain!

Come and watch some Japanese films with us in July!

Admission fee for each screening is 2400 HUF!

Tickets can be purchased after July 9, 2026 at the ticket office or the website of Toldi Mozi.
The movies are screened in Japanese, with Hungarian subtitles.

① Sunset Sunrise (2025, 139 mins)

In 2020, Shinsaku, an employee of a major corporation in Tokyo, ends up moving to a rural town in the Tohoku region to work remotely during the COVID pandemic. His new landlord, Momoka, works at the local city hall.
During a two-week period of self-quarantine, Shinsaku sneaks out alone every morning to indulge in his hobby of fishing.On the day his isolation ends, he sees Momoka remove her face mask for the first time, which stirs feeling within him.
When townspeople learn that some unknown man has taken up residence on Momoka's property, they can't contain themselves. Shinsaku receives a rough welcome, but he tries to win them over with his inheritent positivity. Just as he is settling into his new life, Shinsaku learns one day that Momoka lost her husband and children in the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami nine year earlier. Regardless of the past, he simply loves Momoka and this town. And despite being shrouded in darkness for a long time, a ray of light begins to shine into Momoka's heart.

② Komada - A Whisky Family (2023, 91 mins)

Screening date: July 28, 2026 (from 19:00)

Kotaro, a novice editor for a web news, visits Komada Distillery for a project on Japanese craft whisky. Led by a young female president Rui, who recently took over the family business, the distillery works hard to reproduce its signature whisky KOMA they had to stop making years ago. KOMA was a brand that Rui's family had lovingly preserved over generations and a symbol of happiness for all. However, not to mention financial backing, too many clues are missing to revive the whisky once lost. 
Rui, Kotaro, and the distillery supporters pull together every thread to bring back the whisky filled with family memories.

③ She Taught Me Serendipity (2025, 127 mins)

Screening date: July 29, 2026 (from 19:00)

College life is a far cry from the way Konishi had imagined, and his days are plagued with monotomy. However, he does manage to enjoy some lighthearted interactions with Yamane, his only friend on campus, and Sacchan, his co-worker at the local bathhouse.  Everything changes one day afterclass when he lays eyes on Sakurada, and is mesmerized by the elegant girl with the distinctive bun hairstyle.
After summoning up the courage to talk to her, a series of delightful coincidences help Konishi and Sakurada to thoroughly hit it off. He's astounded when Sakurada casually mentions that she wants to enjoy every single day of her life, and to always think "Today's sky my favorite."These are the same words Konishi's beloved grandmother used to say before she passed away six months earlier. 
Just as Konishi begins to find a renewed affection for the world around him, a shocking event takes place, altering Konishi and Sakurada's detinies forever.

④ Kanasando (2025, 86 mins)

This is a story of a family living on the Ryukyu Islands in the south of Japan,
A daughter, traumatized by her father's infidelity and her mother death, leaves the island alone.
The daughter, who thought she would never see her father again, is informed of his critical condition. 
The reunion with her father on his sickbed brings back happy memories of her mother.
Interweaving Okinawan scenery and traditional Ryukyuan songs and island songs in the Ryukyuan scale, the film climaxes with the moment of the father's death, highlighting his love and view of life and death.
It is a heartwarming human comedy that will make you laugh and cry, depicting the connection between people that are fading away today.

⑤ The Real You (2024, 122 mins)

Screening date: July 31, 2026 (from 19:00)

"I want you to create my mother." To understand the "true heart" of a mother who chose elective death, a man resurrects his mother through AI technology.
Sakuya's mother, Akiko suddenly passed away, later revealing that she had actually chosen elective death. Why had a mother, who seemed happy, desired to end her own life? Desperate to uncover his mother's true intentions, Sakuya ventures into uncharted technological territorial. He turns to VF (Virtual Figure), a technology that aggregates personal data from one's life to create a "human" in a virtual space. Although Sakuya feels uneasy, he still proceeds with the data collection necessary for creating the VF and contacts a woman named Miyoshi, who claims to have been his mother's close friend. Thus, his "mother' is completed, and Sakuya begins to reclaim an ordinary life - able to meet his mother whenever he wears the VF googles. However, the VF gradually begins to reveal another side of his mother that Sakuya had never known...
