OKEIKO 41
The explanation of the basic movements of "go-shūgi-mono", begun in OKEIKO 40 continues. At the beginning of the dance, dancers adjust the neckline of their kimono and fix their appearance.
Of course, they have already inspected their costume several times in the dressing room before the performance, and also have not neglected to check it before going on stage. So, you may think that there is no need to check again after going on stage. However, these movements are not really about grooming or putting the look together. They are a stylized presentation of 'pre-dance preparation' in front of and to the audience. This series of movements is an expression of the Nihonbuyo dancer’s intention: 'I will dance for you from now on'. It can be considered as a greeting to the audience.
