Literature Night 2023
Budapest: 8th June 19:00-23:00
Debrecen: 17th June 19:00-22:00
The Literature Night is a cultural event where the city and world literature meet in a formative style for three evenings with the help of the participating theatres.
Each year, the world literature readings in Budapest migrate to a new venue to draw the audience's attention to the cultural specificities of the city, in addition to the literary experience.
This year, the three-day event will be hosted by the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden. At various points in the popular facility, works by 2️⃣7️⃣ authors from 2️⃣7️⃣ countries will be performed in the late hours by actors from the Vígszínház, showing a side of the zoo that is little known to the traditional visitor.
The idea of the Literature Night was born sixteen years ago in Prague, with the aim of giving participants a taste of literature from as many nations and in as many interesting places as possible. Since then, it has become one of the most important literary events not only in the Czech capital, but also in our country for the sixth year, giving literature lovers the opportunity to discover new writers and works. The theme of this year's event is "footprints", with Japanese literature represented this time by Kavabata Yasunari.
