Calling for applications for fiscal year 2024/2025. The guidelines and application documents have been updated, so be sure to read them thoroughly before applying!

This program is designed to provide partial assistance for implementing projects related to Japanese culture and arts, with the aim of enhancing cultural exchange between Japan and Hungary and other Central and Eastern Eurpean countries.

The grant program for film screening projects was previously overseen by the Headquarters of the Japan Foundation, however from Japanese fiscal year (JFY) 2018 applications from the region should be submitted to the Budapest office.

Please take note that from 2018 film screening projects have different guidelines and application forms than arts and culture related projects! For futher information, please refer to the attached documents below.

 

General Information

Eligibility

- Non profit-making projects/events that help to promote the international cultural exchange between Japan and the applicant country.

- Institutions which have enough capability for execute the grant project according to the plan.

- The applying projects should focus on film screenings, where the content is wholly or for the most part related to Japan.

- Projects implemented online are eligible.

- Religious and political activities are not eligible.

- Solo screenings may be given lower priority.

 

Projects should commence on or after April 1, 2024 and be completed by March 10, 2025 in consideration of the end of the Japanese fiscal year 2024, which is March 31, 2025.

 

Grant coverage

Only specific items such as travel expenses, honorarium and cost to cover hire of venue, printing/publicity costs etc. We can not fund preliminary project research or development. We cannot support travel expenses to Japan.

The grant will be paid by bank transfer after the project has been completed and all the necessary documents have been submitted. The required documents are the Final Report (which must include the Financial Report and the Project Report) and the invoices or copies of invoices covering the grant.

Number of grants

Only a certain number of grants can be provided in JFY 2024.

Grant sizes vary according to project, with an upper limit of 1000 Euros per grant, in principle. However, for international film festivals in relatively larger scale, JFBP may consider providing an upper limit of 3000 Euros per grant. The grant amount applied for cannot exceed the half of the total budget.

 

Application Deadlines

In JFY 2024 we evaluate applications in multiple rounds that have set deadlines:

- Application deadline for projects which take place between April 1, 2024 and September 30, 2024: June 1, 2024

- Application deadline for projects which take place between October 1, 2024 and November 30, 2024: August 1, 2024

- Application deadline for projects which take place between January 1, 2025 and March 10, 2025: November 1, 2024

These are the final deadlines. You can submit your application to an earlier round even if the final deadline for the date of your event falls in a later round.

Method of application

All documents shall be submitted in English! We only accept applications submitted electronically, however scanned copies of the original signed documents are neccessary.

An essential condition of the grant is that The Japan Foundation must appear on all printed materials and other media appearances.

 

Other required information/documents

Together with the Application Form, the entire preliminary budget must be attached, as well as information about the applicant organization.
